Ridiculously fast smartphone to text transcription that JUST WORKS!

(PRWEB) February 03, 2012

Microsoft BizSpark in conjunction with partners Startup Weekend and Founder Institute announce New Zealand company TranscribeMe as winner of the Asia Pacific (APAC) region scholarship to present at the DEMO Asia startup launchpad in Singapore. Ten outstanding startup companies from the APAC region have been chosen, with only one lucky company hailing from New Zealand.

The team at TranscribeMe invented and developed a new way to convert voice to text with the help of remote human experts. Their early beta customers use a smartphone app to record meetings, interviews and dictation, and receive accurate transcripts back as an email. The text transcripts are searchable and are easy to access and share, and the service works in multiple languages.

DEMO is one of the top global venues for emerging technology startups and DEMO Asia is the first DEMO event in the Asia Pacific region. It is an opportunity for TranscribeMe to gain global exposure on this premier platform, where the region’s best and brightest come to pitch and launch products to a global audience. For companies having a product in demand by clients in the South East Asia marketplace it is a must attend event.

By winning this prestigious honor TranscribeMe have an opportunity to present an Alpha Pitch at DEMO Asia and a raft of other opportunities to network and to present to some of the biggest names in technology, on the globe. In addition to the Alpha Pitch, TranscribeMe will receive:

Display booth in the BizSpark Pavilion at DEMO Asia
Two individual DEMO conference passes
Video of the TranscribeMe pitch posted on the DEMO Asia 2012 website
A backstage 3 minute interview on DEMO Asia

TranscribeMe CEO and Stanford MBA graduate, Alexei Dunayev, knows that this opportunity means a lot more than just making a pitch to some serious players. Dunayev commented, “By leveraging on the DEMO Asia’s network, TranscribeMe will be able to reach out to a global audience. This includes future customers, global media, investors and potential strategic partners.”

He is not wrong. It is fair to say that many of the world’s top companies such as Adobe, Cisco, Google, Microsoft, Motorola, Symantec and Yahoo have all, in one form or another, acquired products presented and brought to their attention at DEMO. Some of these acquisitions have grown to become household names. This year DEMO Asia 2012 will run in Singapore from Feb 29 – March 2.

Readers can sign up for the exclusive beta program on TranscribeMe website and follow their story on the blog and talk to them on twitter (@TranscribeMe).

FOSDEM, Brussels, Belgium (PRWEB UK) 4 February 2012

Codethink Limited, a provider of engineering services for mobile and embedded devices, praises the accomplishments of the Lima Driver Project, a free and open source project started by Codethink’s senior 3D graphics engineer, Luc Verhaegen. The project aims to bring together a community of liked-minded talented system and graphics engineers. This new community project anticipates helping embedded and mobile device manufacturers and their ecosystem partners and customers such as mobile application/solution developers, telecommunications operators, enterprises creating their own custom system images for consumer devices.

Accomplishment and Methodology

The initial driver precursor, Limare, will commence by slowly building-up knowledge of the ARM Ltd Mali graphics processing unit (GPU). An initial, single frame EGL/openGLES2 application was written which targets specific functionality of the GPU. Following that the command stream rendering a single frame was captured and analyzed. Using the same input data as the EGL/openGLES application (shader source, attributes and uniforms), the Limare infrastructure is expanded or improved until it shows the same render.

The following images were rendered and can be found in full on the project website, http://limadriver.org:

1) smoothed triangle.

2) smoothed strip.

3) smoothed fan.

4) flat quad.

5) triangle quad.

6) smoothed, lighted, rotated cube.

Luc Verhaegen said, “These renders are taken from a Mali-400, and they produce the exact same result on a Mali-200, albeit ever so slightly slower. They are 4x MSAA (Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing), as the bits to enable this are known already. The images are upside down, as that is the way that the panels are laid out on initial test Mali devices. The backgrounds are grey as that is the easiest way to tell whether we still have a cleared frame buffer, or whether something went catastrophically wrong and we only rendered black.”

Engineers wishing to participate can learn more at http://limadriver.org, or at the FOSDEM Devroom on Saturday 4 February 2012 at the FOSDEM conference being held at Brussels. For real-time communications interested persons can use the IRC channel, #lima, on freenode. In the near future, the source can be found on the git repositories at https://gitorious.org/lima.

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) January 23, 2012

Splashtop® Inc., the worldwide leader in cross-device computing, is demonstrating the latest release of Splashtop Whiteboard at the 2012 Florida International Society for Technology in Education (FETC ®) Conference in Orlando, FL, Booth #915.
To celebrate the 16,000th classroom using Splashtop Whiteboard, Splashtop is offering free styluses to all Apple’s App Store Volume Purchase Program (VPP) buyers.

Splashtop is also partnering with SuperTeacherWorksheets.com to offer teachers popular math, science and map worksheets for use with the digital flipchart tool.

Splashtop Whiteboard allows teachers and students to easily turn an iPad into an interactive whiteboard. By connecting to a computer over Wi-Fi from an iPad, a classroom can watch Flash media with fully synchronized video and audio, control their favorite applications and annotate lesson content with a full-featured toolbar. Teachers can interact with students at their desks or from all four corners of the classroom.

Splashtop Whiteboard is built on top of Splashtop Remote Desktop, the company’s award-winning and long-running #1 paid iPad app in the Apple App Store.

What education professionals are saying about Splashtop Whiteboard:

“I really like Splashtop Whiteboard. The remote desktop access is very functional and allows me to just carry my iPad as opposed to carrying my clunky laptop. That alone made it worth it… the whiteboard capability and the ability to annotate documents and drawings make this an invaluable tool that I will recommend to others” – Jim Russell, Assistant Director of Business Technology Services, Pinellas County Government.

“The Essa Academy in the UK are known for innovation and technology. Splashtop has helped us redesign our 20 million pound building – redefining how learning happens at the academy. Using Splashtop Whiteboard, teachers are now free to wander around the class to help students but still have full control of the front of the room as well as annotate lesson content through their iPads” – Abdul Chohan, Director, Educational Innovations.

Using Splashtop Whiteboard, teachers can:

Be in Control – Have complete control over Mac or PC applications, such as Apple Keynote® or Microsoft PowerPoint®, all from an iPad. No need to be tied to the front of the class. Be free to roam around. Hand the iPad to a student and let their imagination do the rest!

Annotate Anything – Use gestures to draw and highlight using different colored and sized pens, highlighter, shapes and text tools over existing content or blank, ruled or graphed backgrounds. Take snapshots of the screen and save them to the gallery for later use or email them to students, parents or colleagues.

Experience Lifelike Playback – All video and audio are played in high definition on your iPad. Play Adobe Flash content, iTunes music, DVDs, CDs, etc. as they were meant to be enjoyed and avoid the hassles of syncing.

Visit http://www.splashtop.com/whiteboard to learn more about Splashtop Whiteboard and get the app. Splashtop Whiteboard can be downloaded for $ 19.99 USD from the Apple App Store and is also available for purchase under Apple VPP.

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) January 28, 2012

McCann E-Investigations (McCann EI), a Texas-based computer forensics and private investigative firm expands its computer forensics capabilities to meet the digital debugging demands of their clients in San Antonio and the surrounding areas. “Continued expansion in our San Antonio market has facilitated the need to adopt the industry’s most respected digital debugging tools” said Dan Weiss, Partner at McCann E-Investigations. Digital intruders commonly replace system programs with custom versions of those programs that perform malicious operations, such as monitoring keystrokes or providing remote access to the attacker. These types of malware are often difficult and time consuming to detect. To make this process as efficient as possible McCann EI utilizes two of the industry’s most respected tools, the QualysGuard and Nessus Security Scanners, as well as proprietary software to identify and remediate security threats. “As the threat landscape evolves, so must the tools. We have found the QualysGuard and the Nessus solutions to be the most effective.” continued Weiss.

The QualysGuard scanner is driven by the most comprehensive and most up-to-date knowledgebase of vulnerability checks in the industry vulnerability. QualysGuard delivers continuous protection against the latest worms and security threats. In performing over 150 million system audits per year, QualysGuard is the widest deployed security on demand solution in the world. The Nessus Security Scanner detects and identifies the most malicious types of malware, such as spyware and keyloggers which can capture and transmit confidential session data. The Nessus Security Scanner allows performs sophisticated remote scans and audits of Unix, Windows, and network infrastructures.

OfficeFrog.com, an online retailer of office supplies with a dedication to helping companies become more earth friendly with their product purchasing, kicks of 2012 by taking the worry of best price out of the equation for its customers. Introducing a Price Match Guarantee, OfficeFrog.com customers can shop with confidence they will be able to get a competitive price on their purchases.

“We listened to our customers and they said price was a key factor when buying from us” explained David Conner, Co-Founder, OfficeFrog.com. “They also said it’s important we stay price competitive going forward.”

Aimed at helping buyers keep their expenses in line with budgets the OfficeFrog.com Price Match Guarantee makes it simple. If a customer finds a lower price online we will match that price for the identical item. We will also guarantee a customer’s purchase price for up to one week after the purchase date.

To make a claim customers need to simply send an email with an existing OfficeFrog.com order number containing the item requesting to be price matched, the OfficeFrog.com product number, the competitor’s website and an link to the lower priced item. Once validated, an OfficeFrog.com Price Match specialist will process a qualifying request.

Springville, UT (PRWEB) January 20, 2012

Digital Technology International (DTI™) has today announced that it has signed a long-term agreement with Swift Communications to provide all of their media divisions with DTI ContentPublisher, and to move their existing DTI circulation and advertising solutions to DTI Cloud, the company’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform.

With Swift Communications news media properties in six western states, DTI ContentPublisher will instantly begin to improve digital workflows and operational efficiencies for all of their 34 publications and websites, and their many special sections. Enterprise-wide, Swift Communications will have a unified system for print and digital multi-channel publishing, with a unique integration of Adobe InDesign and InCopy. Having all of their DTI systems within DTI Cloud, the industry’s most rigorous SaaS infrastructure, will help Swift Communications achieve their technology-based business goals through a new cloud-computing business model.

“We are doing business differently today than yesterday. We needed a unified print and digital system. We are now Web-first and making social media integration a high priority,” said Jim Hemig, corporate production director, Swift Communications. “Information is being packaged differently and we need to concentrate on engaging our audience and delivering targeted content the way they want to receive it. By having all of our systems in DTI Cloud will benefit us in so many ways. We will immediately save money, achieve faster ROI and a greater level of fault tolerance are just a few. It’s a smart move.”

“In committing to our cloud publishing solutions, Swift Communications is also building a strategic business platform,” said Dan Paulus, vice president, Sales, DTI, Americas. “Swift will have a flexible digital infrastructure so they can focus on deeper audience engagement and pursue new digital revenue. In addition, they will increase their competitiveness across all markets by always having the very latest version of each DTI solution in DTI Cloud.”

Swift Communications will use DTI ContentPublisher to create and manage digital content for multichannel delivery through its high-performance network.

DTI Cloud offers Swift Communications an agile cloud-computing platform that guarantees they will always be current with the latest DTI software and features without having to wait for upgrades.

Swift Communications is a 21st century information provider, based on a foundation of sharply focused community newspapers.
Dearborn, MI (PRWEB) January 17, 2012

Nanomanufacturing is no longer the next frontier. It’s in action today, and it is improving products and processes and saving manufacturers money along the way.

This March, nanomanufacturing experts will be gathering in Boston to share their knowledge with other manufacturing professionals at the NanoManufacturing Conference and Exhibits organized by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. In addition to discussions on mid- to long-term applications of this smallest of technologies, there will be information on how it is already impacting the industry as evidenced in these five ways.

1) Materials – Nanotechnology is creating exceptionally light, yet extremely tough, materials, such as graphene. Nano composites are uniquely customizable to adhere to other materials. They are currently used in golf clubs and tennis rackets, with expectations that they will transform the aerospace, defense and transportation industries in the not-too-distant future.

2) Coatings – Nanotechnology is enabling coatings to have numerous beneficial properties that are proving very marketable. Nanocoatings are known to be a thermal barrier, flame retardant, ultraviolet resistance, self and easy cleaning, wear resistant, friction reducing, corrosion resistant, anti-scratch resistance, antibacterial and anti-fingerprint. They can even be self healing. Nanocoatings are used in myriad industries including automotive, defense, household cleaners, construction and exterior protection, with a very promising future in many more fields.

3) Energy Collection and Storage – Surface-to-volume ratios give nano particles most of their power. For example, a golf ball by volume equals the surface of a playing card. That same golf ball by nano particles has a surface area equivalent to four football fields. These particles use light more efficiently which is improving the efficiency and cost of solar panels.

4) Lighting – Quantum dots are nanoparticles of a semiconductor material with unique optical and electrical properties. A manufacturer can precisely control the size of a quantum dot to determine the color of light emitted. In addition to enabling the manufacturing of LED lights, quantum dots are used in electroluminescent displays and solid-state lighting.

5) Manufacturing Processes – Self-assembly is a branch of nanotechnology in which objects, devices and systems form structures without external prodding. Biological systems use self-assembly to construct various molecules and structures. Think of it as LEGOS® that assemble themselves. This process is currently being used in computer chips, and has potential benefits for water purification, sanitation, agriculture, alternative energy and medicine.

“More than 1,300 products have already made it to market using nanotechnology, with many more in the pipeline,” said Lauralyn McDaniel, the conference manager. “This conference provides an opportunity for manufacturers from almost any industry to either be introduced to nanomanufacturing or discover the latest advances in the technology.”

The NanoManufacturing conference is co-located with the MicroManufacturing Conference and Exhibits. Both events have been designed based on feedback attendees have given that the most valuable part of attending an SME conference is the people they meet and the resources they gain. To encourage the synchronistic collaboration, the sessions are shorter and breaks are longer, the exhibits have been arranged “in the round” to promote discussion, and the Conversation Connection areas are ideal for having in-depth conversations with colleagues. Attendees of either conference can go back and forth between the two and tailor this event to their own interests and needs.

The NanoManufacturing Conference sessions cover a broad range of topics including, metrology because “if you can’t measure it, you can’t make it,” nanostructure manufacturing techniques, the future applications of graphene in every day products, occupational and environmental health and safety concerns and antimicrobial technologies for medical devices.

Additionally, a panel of nanomanufacturing leaders will address moving from the research and development phase and prototyping to the commercialization phase and volume production. The event concludes with the annual peek into the nanocrystal ball in an attempt to predict what the next five years will bring to nanotechnology.

For those who are new to the technology, need a refresher or just want to explore the topic in more depth, pre-conference workshops and tours to iRobot® and the Center for High-rate Nanomanusturing/Kostas Nanomanufacturing Research Center are also available.

KINGSLAND, AR (PRWEB) January 13, 2012

At an all-school assembly earlier today, Kingsland Elementary School received a $ 5,000 technology grant from the Foundation for Rural Education and Development (FRED). TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS®), a supporting member of FRED, presented the grant to Bonnie Rogers, coordinator of the Parent/School/Community Center; Rebecca McGee, science teacher for grades 4-6; and school administrators. TDS also surprised the school with five Dell Netbooks.

Kingsland applied for — and is one of only seven schools in the United States receiving a FRED technology grant. This grant makes it possible for the school to offer its students (of which 4-out-of-5 are eligible for the federal free/reduced meal program) more technology-based learning opportunities.

“Our kids are very excited about science,” says McGee. “They spend a considerable part of the school day on the Internet researching scientific information and careers in the science field. This money will help us invest in new tools that will allow the students to engage in more meaningful and impacting scientific investigations.”

The school is planning to use the funds to purchase tools for earth, physical, and life science projects. For example, in physical science, students will use motion detector probes to record movement, speed, energy, and direction changes for comparison through computer graphing. In Nature of Science, students will collect accurate weight readings using digital scales and compare their findings to readings from spring scales, balance pans, and triple beams.

“TDS is proud to be part of the FRED program,” “It’s a great honor to present this check to Kingsland Elementary School, especially knowing that it will help the students have the opportunity to use truly innovative technology,” says Tony Bugher, market manager for TDS.

The FRED grant program, now in its tenth year, awards funds to public schools that are working in cooperation with their local telecommunications companies to increase the use of technology to enhance the learning experience.
MAGIX Video Pro X4

Reno, NV (PRWEB) January 10, 2012

From January 10th until 13th Las Vegas will be hosting the 2012 Consumer Electronic Show (CES). Every year, the world’s largest convention of consumer electronics attracts, in addition to the crowds of fans, important exhibitors displaying their latest technology. Each January in Las Vegas the tradeshow typically hosts previews of products and new product announcements. Therefore, MAGIX is pleased to announce the release of its next version of the ground breaking video editing software, MAGIX Video Pro X4 (US release date: January 31).

MAGIX Video Pro X4 is simply a great solution for professional video editing: the multi-award-winning software, which is geared towards the unique requirements of professional users, offers an unbeaten range of powerful post-production tools. Thanks to the new MAGIX Hybrid Video Engine, MAGIX Video Pro X4 leverages the efficiency of AMD’s multi-core CPU and GPU technology, while incorporating acceleration through OpenCL™ for AMD Radeon™ Graphics.. As a result, performance is increased by up to 350% in comparison to previous versions during the output of AVCHD footage.

“With AMD we found the perfect partner to enhance our video products with a faster and more convenient workflow. Our professional video software, Video Pro X4 and our consumer product, Movie Edit Pro MX, are our first video editing solutions fully compatible with AMD graphic cards and OpenCL”, says MAGIX CEO Jürgen Jaron. Multi monitor set-ups are the future and MAGIX together with AMD gives every user the possibility to use up to six screens in video editing with a single AMD Radeon™ HD graphics card and AMD Eyefinity technology. This gives the user more space for implementing ideas and “we have also found out that the benefit in terms of speed is huge: The processing of video effects like colour-correction, transitions and scaling on the GPU leads to great improvement in real-time video effect editing.”
