The CAD Society Announces 2003 CAD Society Industry Lifetime Achievement Award

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., May 17, 2003 — The CAD Society, a not-for-profit CAD industry user association, today announced the winner of the 2003 CAD Society Industry Lifetime Achievement Award. The recipient of this year’s award is Carl Machover, president of Machover Associates Corporation, a computer graphics consulting firm. The award will be presented at a ceremony on May 17 at COFES2003: The Congress on the Future of Engineering Software, being held in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The CAD Society Industry Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded for a lifetime of outstanding technical and business contributions to the CAD industry.

Machover was selected to receive this year’s award for his life-long involvement in the computer graphics industry. He has written more than 180 articles on computer graphics, conducted seminars and lectures worldwide and has authored hundreds of other computer graphic works. He is an editorial board member on many industry publications and was guest editor of the special computer graphics art issues of Computer and Graphics. He is the current president of Art and Science Collaborations, Inc. (ASCI) and past president of the National Computer Graphics Association (NCGA), the Society for Information Display (SID) and the Computer Graphics Pioneers. Machover has received the North Carolina State University Orthogonal Award and the NCGA Vanguard Award, and was inducted into the FAMLI Computer Graphics Hall of Fame.

“Carl was chosen for this year’s Lifetime Award because of his long involvement and presence in computer graphics industry,” said Joe Greco, president of the CAD Society. “He is a pioneer and ‘the expert’ in the computer graphics field. His outstanding research, ideas and visions have provided valuable insight and growth throughout the world. Everyone involved in computer graphics has been influenced by him in one way or another.”

The CAD Society Industry Awards recognize the contributions of individuals within the Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) and engineering software industry. CAD and related engineering software applications are used in the design of buildings, automobiles, consumer goods, and just about every manufactured product in the market today. Past winners of The CAD Society Industry Lifetime Achievement Award include: Joel Orr, Patrick Hanratty, and Jason Lemon.

The CAD Society also presents awards in two other categories:

Community — For outstanding work in improving communication and developing community within the CAD industry.

Leadership — For outstanding technical and business leadership in the CAD industry, and dedication to the needs of CAD users.
